Week of February 21

We will be having a half-day next Friday, March 4th as it is the end of the second trimester. Report cards will be coming home, along with the most recent NWEA report for your student, in the month of March.

Our next Book Report is due on Friday, March 11th.
Students should focus on identifying evidence of character traits and giving a detailed summary of the book.

This is a reminder that your student needs to be charging their computer every night. We are having some students come to school with a dead or near-dead computer. Thank you!

We are having many students come to school without water bottles. The office only has so many water bottles and it is important that your student brings their own to school.

💙Language Arts: Students have worked hard this month to learn about significant influential black leaders in honor of Black History Month. They have been using their research skills to learn about each person's most important achievements. Next month, we will be learning about significant women of history as it is Women's History Month.

💛Writing: Students have continued working with their group for our next informational writing. They have determined the roles of each person in their group and will begin researching for their chapters next week. We will continue working on this group project throughout the next couple of weeks.

💙WORD STUDY💛

The next report will be due on Friday, February 11th.
This is a great time to do some goal setting with your child and figure out how many pages or chapters your child will need to read to finish in time. To step it up a bit this time we would like students to work on adding evidence to show how their characters in the story demonstrated the character traits reported.

ðŸ’™What We Learned This Week ðŸ’›

💙Language Arts: This week, we continue to meet in small group instruction to work on comprehension and asking/answering questions. Many groups are reading about Martin Luther King, Jr.

💛Writing: Students are wrapping up their final drafts of their Informational Writings. We are going to start a small group informational writing for this upcoming week. This should be lots of fun for the kids to work together on a topic of choice!

💙Math: This week, we worked on dividing larger numbers into equal groups. We will wrap up Unit 4 with our Unit Test toward the end of the week and start Unit 5, which is about fractions.

💛Science: We have paused Science while we begin our next Social Studies unit.

💙Social Studies:  We have completed Chapter 3 and will work on reviewing the chapter. Because of the snow days, we are delayed getting through the review. The test will be next Thursday. Please be aware that students will need to choose one person to write a paragraph about on the test. This paragraph should include a topic sentence and 4 - 5 details. Practicing at home is the best way to ensure that your student is ready to write the paragraph.

💙WORD STUDY💛

We will continue with the same word study from last week as we were not able to finish the unit due to snow days.
