Week of April 25 - 29


The following is all the important information you will need to know for the remainder of the school year:

  • May 2: No School
  • May 6: Track Meet & Technology Festival
  • May 9 - 13: Swimming
  • May 20: Hesston Steam Museum - All School Field Trip
  • May 24: Field Trip to the Potawatomi Zoo (Informational Note if needed)
  • May 30: No School
  • June 2: 3rd Grade Reading Camp (Informational Note if needed)
  • June 8: School Picnic
  • June 9: Half Day
  • June 10: Half Day and Last Day of School
*Notes are coming home today with information about reading camp and the field trip. Please note that if you want to volunteer for either event you must have a background check form approved ahead of time. If you have already volunteered and filled out a request any time during the school year, there is no need to fill out another form. Only fill out the background check form if you have not had one approved anytime during this year.




Hesston Steam Museum!


πŸ’š An E. P. Clarke parent, Ted Rita has generously offered our students an amazing opportunity to visit the Hesston Steam Museum in LaPorte, IN.

πŸ’š We need a minimum of  4-5 chaperones per class to attend. 

πŸ’š If you are available on May 20th,  please sign up with this link

πŸ’š If you have multiple students in different grades, please only sign up for one class.

Details: 

  • All times listed are EST but note that Hesston is located in CST.
  • Buses depart Clarke at 9am and depart from Hesston at 1:30pm.
  • Parents will be driving separately. 
  • You may follow the bus or plan to arrive at Hesston by 9:45.  
  • Please plan to pack lunch as the students will have lunch on the premises. 
  • A daily schedule and map will be provided closer to the event.

The kids will have an amazing day and we are so thankful for our parent volunteers that can attend.  We could not provide this opportunity without all of our amazing volunteers!! For safety reasons, no siblings are allowed.

We will be taking the NWEA math test next week on Tuesday. Please help make sure your child gets to school on time, had a great night's sleep, and has a good healthy breakfast! 

All book reports were due today. We are now starting on new books to share with the class! The next book report will be on May 13th. 


πŸ’šWhat We Learned This Week πŸ’š

πŸ’šLanguage Arts:  This week we focused on various text structures that authors use to write their informational text. We also completed our NWEA Reading.

πŸ’šWriting: Don't forget to take a look at your child's project that was submitted to the technology festival. Please make sure that it is ready to present to the community.

πŸ’šMath: We continue to focus on the attributes of shapes but have had a heavy emphasis on understanding perimeter.

πŸ’šScience: We have now completed our very last science unit "Stormy Skies". We will review with students and test next week (all done at school) and then will move back into social studies to finish the year.

πŸ’šSocial Studies:  No social studies while we work on our last science unit.


πŸ’šWORD STUDYπŸ’š

This week we will begin Unit 22 in word study. We will be learning about unaccented final syllables -er, -ar, -or.

Our students have been much better about charging computers and bringing their water bottles and snack. Keep up the great work with the routines!

Walking Track Has Returned!!!
Thank you to all of our wonderful parent volunteers that help bring the walking track to our students at lunch. Keep encouraging your student to get that exercise each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday!


All book reports were due today. We are now starting on new books to share with the class! The next book report will be on April 29th.

πŸ’šLanguage Arts:  This week we focused on various text structures that authors use to write their informational text. 

πŸ’šWriting: Projects were submitted last week! Don't forget to put the Ren Baldwin Technology Festival on your calendars so that you can go view your student's group informational project. Editing and recording can still happen through this weekend but we do need them to be complete.

πŸ’šMath: Geometry is our focus for unit 7 which we have just started this week. Attributes of shapes such as parallel sides, size of angles, and number of vertices.

πŸ’šScience: The students are very excited to be learning about weather in our last science unit "Stormy Skies". So far we have learned what clouds are made of and we have learned about the types of good weather clouds and storm clouds.

πŸ’šSocial Studies:  No social studies while we work on our last science unit.


πŸ’šWORD STUDYπŸ’š

This week we will begin Unit 21 in word study. We will be learning about words that end with -le, -el, -il, -al.

Week of April 11 - 15

 


We have heard that our students had a wonderful spring break and we were very happy to be back to learning for the last 9 weeks of the school year. Everyone seems refreshed and ready to end the year strong. Lots of learning occurs during these last 9 weeks!

  • MANY students this week were without water bottles and snacks. Please work with your child to set a routine and prepare for the school day. A water bottle is a must to stay hydrated and able to learn throughout the day.
  • When discussing the routine with your child, please include:
    • Charging computers
    • packing snacks & water bottle
    • reading on a daily basis
    • and taking the reading book to and from school
 

Walking Track Has Returned!!!
Our students are very excited that the walking track is returning on Monday! Bring those token necklaces and encourage your student to get walking on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during lunch recess.


All book reports were due today. We are now starting on new books to share with the class! The next book report will be on April 29th. 





Our Scholastic Book Fair is here! Your child can find hundreds of books from new and favorite authors, popular series, cool posters, and school supplies, not to mention it is fun! The fair will be open daily from 8:00 to 4:30 Monday through Thursday and 8:00 - 3:00 on Friday. 

Our Family Night is scheduled for Tuesday, April 19 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. 

You can set up an eWallet or send in cash or a check with your student. Please don't forget to include the 6% sales tax.

πŸ’œLanguage Arts: We have continued with our reading groups and our students had our first experience with the M-STEP. 

πŸ’œWriting: Projects were submitted this week! Don't forget to put the Ren Baldwin Technology Festival on your calendars so that you can go view your student's group informational project. Editing and recording can still happen through this weekend but we do need them to be complete.

πŸ’œMath: We have continued working through Unit 6 (measurement). This week, our focus has been on using the different types of measurement that we have learned to solve word problems.

πŸ’œScience: Our science unit is complete and we will now pause for our next social studies unit.

πŸ’œSocial Studies:  The chapter 4 test was taken this week. They will be graded over the weekend and returned on Monday.


πŸ’œWORD STUDYπŸ’œ

This week we will begin Unit 20 in word study. We will be learning about the consonant -le pattern at the end of the word.
