π€Language Arts: This week, we concentrated on being reading detectives. Students were challenged to read passages and answer questions about the text. These CSA's (comprehension strategy assessments) train students to think about the text to find meaning and information. Going over these sheets at home help make reading a priority. Additionally, we read an informational book on turkeys. The students learned a great deal about turkeys!
π€Writing: We are not quite ready to start a new reading unit so we wrote a few short paragraphs about turkeys. Look for the paragraphs in your student's blue folder!
π€Math: Our study of area continues. We have now moved into rectilinear shapes where students must divide a shape into 2 or more rectangles. We continue to focus on multiplication to find the area of the shape.
π€Science: We will be pausing our Science lessons as we have finished the first unit: Power of Flowers. Science resumes after the section of Social Studies that we have started.
π€Social Studies: Our 5 themes tests were sent home and we are now starting chapter 2. We will learn about the first people to arrive in Michigan and learn how the Native American tribes lived life.
*Be sure to check in with your child regarding the completion of independent reading books and book reports. If you have questions, this is a great topic to discuss at conferences.
Word Study
Next week's word study is introducing plural words that are considered irregular. Spelling words for the week are: scarves, firemen, deer, lives, children
π€ Snacks and Water Bottles π€
We are having approximately 7 kids per class per day that are forgetting to bring a snack and/or water bottle to school. In 3rd grade alone, that is 21 students. Students that forget a snack or water bottle are always given these items. This may be donations made to the office or it may be out of the teacher's own personal purchases for students. We understand that this can happen from time to time, but we need your help. This forgetfulness is taking a toll on our resources and time. Please help your student prepare for school by packing a snack and water bottle.
