Week of October 18

💙 Fall Harvest Party Information 💛

Schedule for Friday, October 29th
Parade (All Grades) from 10:50-11:05 AM around the EPC Track.
3rd Grade Class Parties from 12:30-1:30 PM (in Classroom).

Information for the day:
*Students are allowed to wear their costumes throughout the entire day (no gore or weapons). They must wear masks with their costumes (they are not allowed to wear their costumes masks during learning, but are welcome to wear them during the parade). We respectfully ask that any part of the costume that is distracting to the school environment is left at home.

*Parents and families are welcome to come for the parade. If you have had a volunteer background check and are signed up for an activity, you are able to join the classroom party.

💙 What We Learned This Week 💛

💙Language Arts: This week, our emphasis was on character traits, using books written by Jory John and Pete Oswald (The Cool Bean, The Couch Potato, The Good Egg, and The Bad Seed). They had to identify a trait that each character has and use evidence from the story to support their reasoning.

💛Writing: Students are continuing their personal narrative about a time when they learned something new. We are focusing on writing paragraphs (Introduction, Body Paragraphs, and Conclusion) with 3-5 sentences in each. They will then transition into choosing one of the personal narratives that they wrote a draft for, which they will revise and edit.

💙Math: We are continuing with Unit 2 which is area and multiplication. Students worked to find the area of a rectangle on a grid and draw a rectangle on a grid, using the multiplication expression given. We will continue on with Unit 2 this upcoming week.

💛Science:  We will be pausing our Science lessons as we have finished the first unit: Power of Flowers. Science resumes after the section of Social Studies that we have started.

💙Social Studies:  We began getting into the 5 Themes of Geography this week (MR. HELP) and connecting them to Michigan. We will continue to work on it this upcoming week.

*Be sure to check in with your child regarding the completion of independent reading books and book reports. If you have questions, this is a great topic to discuss at conferences.

Word Study

Next week's word study is introducing how to properly add -ed to Unusual Past Tense words. Please remember that there are spelling words to practice each week. The amount of words varies each week between 3 - 5 words.
