Wow, it's hard to believe that Nutcracker Week is approaching! The students are really excited about their upcoming performance! To help students get in the spirit, students created their own Nutcrackers today that are now hanging up in the hallway. 

Students will be performing The Nutcracker for their peers on Wednesday afternoon at Clarke and for families on Thursday Night at the High School.  

Here are some brief reminders about the performances for Thursday Night. 

❤ Please be aware of costume requirements

❤ Please have your student at the high school by 6:00. Our students will
meet in the band/orchestra room. The performance is scheduled for 6:30-7:15 PM. 

❤ We are in need of parent volunteers:

    💚 to usher students in the right direction from the hallway.

   💚to assist with putting on costumes

   💚to assist with taking off and folding costumes  

    💚please email your child's teacher if you can help!

❤ Holiday Party💚

On Friday, we will be having our Holiday Party from 12:30-1:30 PM in our classrooms. If you have a volunteer background check turned into the office and are signed up to help with an activity, you are welcome to join us for the party. Thank you, in advance, to EVERYONE helping to make this party special for our students.

Holiday Concert: On Friday, we will be traveling to the High School to attend the Holiday Concert. The High School Band, Orchestra, and Choir will be performing holiday classics for the students to enjoy. We will be leaving Clarke by 8:40 AM and returning around 11:00 AM. Please have your child to school on time.  

Spirit Days: Next week, Student Council is sponsoring Holiday Themed Spirit Days. Here is the schedule for the week: 

Monday: PJ Day (can bring in one stuffed animal)

Tuesday: Winter Themed Clothes

Wednesday: Mismatch Day

Thursday: Hawaiian Holiday Theme Day

Friday: Ugly Christmas Sweater Day and Winter Hat Day

❤ What We Learned This Week 💚

💚Language Arts: We have been working on ReadWorks passages with students this week to work on responding to informational text. Students have also continued with small group instruction. 

❤Writing: We are continuing to work on our informational writing. This week, we have focused on developing our subtopic paragraphs. Our goal is to have our final drafts completed before students go on break. 

💚Math: This week, we wrapped up rounding a number to the nearest 10 or 100 and introduced solving two-step story problems involving addition, subtraction, and multiplication. Our plan is to have students take the Unit 3 assessment this coming week. 

❤Science:  The students continue to enjoy learning about how animals have changed over time, including physical traits. 

💚Social Studies:  We have pressed pause on social studies to complete our science unit.

As we complete standards through our math program, we will update you on skills that students can practice at home through IXL

💚 Word Study 💚

The spelling words for next week are nation, planet, reason.

Breakfast

• Many of our students are receiving breakfast when they arrive at school. Some of our students are taking up to 25 minutes to eat their breakfast. We would love it if you could talk with your student about the following:

1. Getting your breakfast before you go to the classroom
2. Sitting down and eating while you complete the morning assignment from the board
3. Cleaning up and being ready for morning meeting by 8:35

• We understand that drop-off is a bit tricky right now but if you could help ensure that your student is entering the building by 8:25 that would be helpful to getting our day started in a timely manner.

3rd Grade Necessities...

• Pack a snack and water bottle daily. *The office has a limited amount of snacks for emergency purposes.

• Make your student's lunch choice for the week. Teachers must go in and manually make the choice for your child if you don't make it at home. 

• Set aside reading time at least 5 days a week

• Check your child's blue take-home folder daily. Look for papers being returned for home, notes from school, homework assignments, etc.

• Read the blog each Friday.
